A Typical Day at Waverly Preschool

Guided Free Play

During this activity the children learn the give and take of social life; how to get along with others; and how to meet and conquer physical and social obstacles.

Planned Lessons

Emphasis is placed on learning colors, shapes, counting, number recognition, and the recognition of the letters and sounds of the alphabet. Experiments and observations in science and the natural world are included. Special attention is given to developing reasoning, organization, and problem solving skills, as well as physical skills such as cutting.

Outside Play

Fresh air and large motor development are extremely important parts of our program. We will go outside and play on our large, fabulous wood playground each day. There are far more germs inside than outside, and we believe the fresh air and active play are extremely important. All children present at school will go outside. As the weather grows colder, your child will need jacket, snow pants, hat, boots, and mittens. Please label all items. When boots are necessary, please provide other footwear for indoors! (Slippers are fine.) NO FINGER GLOVES!!

Inside Play

Please dress your child for active play.  We provide smocks and we do have "stain stick", but children move quickly and accidents do happen!  Children must feel free to really explore and become involved in their environment.  Sneakers or non-skid shoes are a must on our floors and also on the playground!

Storytime, Music, Games and Creative Art are an integral part of our program.
